There are two full time members of staff and one part-time technician in the department.

ACCOMODATION
There are two Art rooms separated by a sliding partition. There is also a specialist ceramics room, which also acts as a sixth form studio.
In year 7 all pupils receive three fifty minute lessons a fortnight. In year 8 and year 9 all pupils receive two fifty minute lessons a fortnight for Art, plus one fifty minute lesson a fortnight for Craft and Design activities.
Pupils are taught in groups of thirty to thirty-two for Art and groups of sixteen for Craft and Design.
KS3
The emphasis is on a balanced programme of Art, Craft and Design activities. Pupils must keep a sketchbook to collect and record information and ideas for independent work. Pupils have the opportunity to experiment with a variety of media which include powder paint, watercolour, pencil, coloured pencil, oil pastel, collage and mixed media. In Craft lessons pupils experiment with clay, mod-roc, paper mache, screen and lino printing. Pupils also evaluate the work of other Artist, designers and Craft persons.
KS4
Pupils follow the EDEXCEL course. There are two examination groups in both year 10 and 11. Group sizes are approximately twenty and they receive five Art lessons a fortnight.
The course
In designing the course, the department attempts to cater for the needs of the individual, but within the framework of three main areas.
- Class-based activities.
- Home-based and location work
- Contextual studies
The individual student must show an understanding of the basic elements of line, shape, colour, form, tone, pattern and texture.
The GCSE in Art and Design consists of two units.
UNIT 1-Personal portfolio 60%
UNIT2-Externally set assignment.
KS5
The Course
Pupils follow the OCR syllabus.
Year 12.
There are two units for this Fine Art endorsement.
Unit1-Coursework portfolio.
Candidates need to produce a portfolio of work which derives from themes determined by the school.
Unit2- Controlled Assignment.
For this unit, an early release question paper from the examination board will be given to the pupils.

Year13
There are two units for this Fine Art endorsement.
Unit 1- Coursework
Pupils produce a variety of work from a self selected theme.
Unit 2-Personal Study
Pupils produce an illustrated essay on an Artist or area in Art.
EXTRA CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES
The pupils have many opportunities to attend lunchtime and after school Art Clubs
KS3- Two lunchtimes every week
KS4- Every lunchtime and after school ( except when there are scheduled meetings )
PHOTOGRAPHY CLUB
Photography club runs weekly after school. Pupils are taught about the basic principles of photography and get to experiment with a range of digital and traditional media. They also get the opportunity to go out of school to see shows and take photographs.
